SNOWBOARD RENTALS
We have been doing Chamonix snowboard hire rental for over 15 years, and year after year choose to offer a line of boards second to none in the valley. If you're planning on making the most out of Chamonix, our snowboards are essential. Likewise, if you have your own board at home and want to swerve the extortionate baggage handling fees applied to bikes nowadays, it's very likely we have something to rent at equivalent level...or quite possibly even better!
SO, WHAT ARE YOU GUYS ALL ABOUT?
We are a snowboard shop - we don't rent skis. We believe that the quality of your rental gear is directly proportional to the enjoyment of your holiday. We also believe that good rental gear shouldn't cost a fortune. With these principles in mind, we've radically changed our 2008 rental programme - it was good before, but now we think it's the best in the world.
HOW MUCH IS SNOWBOARD RENTAL AT ZERO G?
Our price is the most simple in town. We will rent you a good board, a good set of snowboard boots and a good set of bindings for 149€ for one week. That's it.
I ONLY WANT TO RENT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS THOUGH!
We've got you covered; the rate's just as competetive for fewer days - click here to see our rate card (coming soon).
I'M USED TO DIFFERENT 'LEVELS' OF GEAR. I DON'T WANT TO GET FOBBED OFF WITH CRAP. EQUALLY, I DON'T NEED STUFF THAT'S TOO GOOD FOR ME. HOW DO I KNOW YOUR STUFF IS JUST RIGHT?
We're all snowboarders, and we wouldn't put a piece of gear in rental that we wouldn't ride ourselves. We have many different models and brands of gear on rental but most of it's Burton. For example, last year (2008), we bought Burton Europe's entire stock of brand-new test boards, boots and bindings - to put into rental. In short, when you rent from us, you can expect the following...
BOARDS
Our boards are a mixture of 2007-, 2008- and 2009- issue Burton, Option and Ride boards in a variety of lengths and widths. We have models like Custom, Custom Wide, Custom X, Love, Dominant and Seven on rental. If you have feet of size UK10.5 (US11.5) or over, you'll need a wide. Tell us what you'd like or let us build your dream setup.
BOOTS
Most of our rental boots are Burton Rulers from 2008. We have a sprinkling of Burton Driver X, Burton Ion and Vans Encore. Snowboard boots aren't like ski boots; it's not one-boot-fits-all. We'll try you in a couple of boots until we find your perfect fit.
BINDINGS
Every binding in our rental fleet is a Burton capstap binding from 2007, 2008 or 2009. This means that the toestrap is designed to go around the front of your foot rather than over the top of it, and is way more comfortable. The majority of bindings are Burton P1s; we also have Missions, Triads, Cartels and C60s.
SO WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL I GET?
You've got two options here. If you know your stuff, when you arrive just tell us what board, boots and bindings you want and we'll give it to you. If you're not sure, we'll make up a package based on your height, width, ability, boot size and riding style.
I'M A GIRL - DO I GET DIFFERENT STUFF?
Definitely. How do 2008-issue Emerald and Sapphire boots sound? Troop, Feelgood and Feelgood ES boards? Escapade and Lexa bindings? We pride ourselves on having excellent girls' rental gear.
CAN YOU GIVE ME MORE INFORMATION ON WHICH SPECIFIC MODEL I WILL RECEIVE WHEN I RENT FROM YOU?
You can find specifics on all of the models mentioned above on www.burton.com. Otherwise, please email us for information. We cannot guarantee specific boards, boots and bindings will be available, but will happy put stuff aside for you if you'd like. Just send us your requirements and we'll make sure you leave the shop happy.
THIS ALL SOUNDS A BIT TECHNICAL. I'M A BEGINNER. WHAT DO I NEED?
We have very specific snowboards for beginner and low intermediate riders which are designed to be very easy to ride and increase your rate of progression. Generally, beginners go out with Burton LTR boards and Mission capstrap bindings. You also need warm, waterproof clothing, a pair of gloves, a hat and thick socks. We don't rent any of these items, but have a wide selection for sale in our boutique.
HOW DO YOU LOOK AFTER YOUR RENTAL GEAR?
Boards are waxed and edged as needed - normally once a week. Over the summer, they're coated with summer wax and kept in humidity-controlled storage. Boots are dried every night and cleaned after every rental. Bindings are removed from boards, cleaned, tightened and stowed after every rental. There's no 'throw it back in the rack' here.
CAN I RENT BY THE DAY?
Yes - you can take gear out at any time you like and return it any time you like, just paying for the amount of time you've had the stuff. For our full day-by-day price list please click here.
WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO RENT FROM YOU?
When you're ready to rent, just bring a passport or driving license for us to hold. If you prefer, we'll just take a swipe of your credit card.
DO I NEED TO GIVE YOU A DEPOSIT?
In view of the strong demand for our boards, you pay upfront. Our cancellation policy is simple; full refund if you let us know up to 24hrs beforehand. If upon seeing the gear, you decide you wouldn't like to rent from us after all, no problem - you get a full refund. No-shows are charged at full rate.
ARE YOU SLOPESIDE?
Very few, if any, hire shops in Chamonix are slopeside. The valley is long and wide, with steep slopes either side of it soaring up to the ski resorts. We right in the middle of Chamonix town centre, so our closest lift is the Brevent gondola - new for 2009 - which is a ten-minute walk up the hill. The Aiguille de Midi lift is a three-minute walk away, but there are no pistes there - it's unpatrolled backcountry. The main ski bus stop is a two-minute walk away, and from here buses take you to Les Houches, La Flégère, Le Tour and Les Grands Montets.
I'VE JUST FLOWN IN ON EASYJET AND MY SNOWBOARD ENDED UP IN TIMBUKTU. CAN YOU HELP?
No problem! Chances are you already know a bit about boarding, so we'll give you carte blanche on what gear you'd like to hire until your gear turns up. We'll provide you with dates, times and a full 'facture' receipt for reimbursment via your airline or holiday insurance company.
DO YOU RENT SKIS?
No - we're a snowboard shop. If you're with friends who ski, there's a shop called Coquoz a few doors down where they can get kitted out while you're getting your board from us.
DO YOU OFFER INSURANCE AGAINST LOSS OR DAMAGE?
No. You are responsible for the gear that you rent If you're not careful, one of three bad things can happen to your equipment during a rental.
1. You scratch the base / scuff the edge / break a binding strap / pop a bootlace.
No problem. We put this kind of stuff down to regular wear and tear, and we won't make you pay for it so long as it's a genuine accident and not down to negligence.
2. You snap the board / take a big chunk out of the edge / break a binding beyond repair.
An occurrence like this is either down to you mistreating the gear, or a manafacturer defect. If it's your fault, we'll ask you to pay for the repair or the replacement of the product. If it's manafacturer defect, we'll kit you out with new rental gear and send you back out. If it's not immediately obvious, we'll send the equipment back to the manafacturer for inspection and get a final decision from them.
3. The gear is stolen.
You pay to replace the gear (see T&Cs). However, theft of equipment is a rarity that is easily deterred through using a board lock (available for purchase in-store) and leaving your stuff somewhere where it's easy to keep an eye on it. A new board lying in a board rack outside a bar in town is a green light to a thief.
I GOT UP THE MOUNTAIN AND I SNAPPED A BINDING LADDER/BUCKLE/HIGHBACK. HELP!
The most common equipment fault is a broken binding. And the most common thing to snap on a binding are the tightening ladders - normally from being stood on in the cold, when it's stiffer and more brittle. We check the gear for stress fractures before it goes out...we just ask that while you've got the stuff, you treat it as if it was your own. If anything goes wrong like this, just drop back in and we'll sort it for you.
